Certain kinds of light and luminosity have always been paramount in rooting myself to the experience of reality. They create a feeling of true awareness, that also seems to break the limits of linear time perception.

The gargantuan afterglows of the region of Castile where I was born, which transform the sky into a sea, a canvas of pure colour, constitute the poetical basis of this work. But instead of exploring the overwhelming massiveness this imagery suggests, the present piece opts for a very intimate perspective. It is an inner meditation, surrendering to the soft embrace of this light phenomenon.

This work was commissioned by Versoi Ensemble with support from the United States Embassy in Finland as part of the Juurilla Commissioning Grant, which urged composer to reflect on their roots.
